Counselling Services
Counselling with me is a collaboration where we work together and focus on the concerns you bring to the counselling space. As part of starting counselling with me I will ask you to complete an initial intake process where we discuss your counselling goals and establish how we will work together including how I manage privacy and confidentiality and what you can expect from me as a counsellor.
I offer 1 hour sessions in-person, online or over the phone depending on your preference. I offer counselling as single sessions and in packages. Most of my clients find they need six to ten sessions to address the concerns that they arrived in counselling with, but some require less or more depending on the issue.
I generally suggest that clients commit to three sessions one week apart and then we re-evaluate how to proceed based on current life circumstances and personal goals.
I am experienced in working with other health professionals including GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists and allied health professionals to ensure you receive the best support possible. As an accredited member of the Australian Counselling Association I am bound by their Code of Ethics and Practice.
To find out more about how we might work together please contact me for an obligation free 15 minute consultation.
Counselling for Individuals
After over 2 years of living in a pandemic most people I speak to often describe feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, their mental and physical health has deteriorated, and it is hard to know what to do and where to turn for help. With so many ideas floating around about what is “good for you” how do you know what to do?
Counselling can help you clarify a way forward that is more aligned to what you want. It can help you filter out the "shoulds" and connect to a sense of wellbeing that is defined by you.
I work with individuals who are struggling with their mental and physical health and who want to feel better in themselves, in their relationships and in their connection to life.
I am in the unique position to have recovered from a chronic illness and I know that wellbeing and healing requires a holistic approach that considers all parts of you.
Counselling for Parents
Parenting is one of the biggest learning and growth opportunities that life offers. When it is said that it is the hardest but the most rewarding job, I believe it! I have worked with parents of tweens and adolescents before I had my own child and then continued to work with parents after becoming a parent myself.
The parents I speak to often say that they feel lost, hopeless and do not feel like they know what they are doing most of the time. They worry about how to connect their own values about parenting to how they parent their child and they want to feel confident that what they are doing is "right" or at the very least not harmful.
From my experience working with parents, parenting feels easier when we are equipped with specific skills and resources that take into account the age and stage of the child as well as considering where we are at in our own life.
I offer counselling for parents of tweens and adolescents aged 11 to 18 who:
-
Want to feel more connected to their child or strengthen their relationship
-
Feel lost about how to repair their relationship with their child or young person
-
Require support to navigate and work with their child's behaviour or mental health issue, which may also include support to engage with other services (mental health and education).
-
Want to feel more confident in their parenting and connected to their parenting values.
Counselling for Young People
I offer counselling for young people aged 11 to 18 years who seek support with their mental health and wellbeing and want to engage more fully with life. In my work I have seen young people struggling to make sense of their feelings and experiences, life and world events and the impact of these events on their mental health and wellbeing.
Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, peer relationships or are worrying about Black Lives Matters or the war in Ukraine, you can benefit from a safe space to give voice to what is happening for you and your concerns. Sometimes it helps to understand that your experiences are "normal" or typical and be supported with skills and strategies to get through them and feel stronger on other side.
I offer counselling to young people who:
-
Are struggling to fully engage with life (education, friends, health)
-
Need support to understand and manage their mental health
-
Require support to recover after difficult experiences.
